MISSION
My major research interest is motion synthesis for virtual humans and robot. This includes also human movement modeling with some recent activities in Psycho-physics. Applications can be found in Virtual Prototyping, Games, Ergonomics, 3D Human-Machine Interfaces, etc... Starting in February 2011 I lead the Immersive Interaction research group (IIG).

I also greatly appreciate to teach the basis of Programming and Software Engineering to first year's students from the Microtechnique section. I teach the Virtual Reality Ms Course in spring with the aim to build a bridge with experimental sciences (in relation with the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory).

Advising PhD students and teaching led me to be part of the EPFL "Conference des Enseignants" to discuss related issues.

From September 1st 2008, I represented the "Corps Intermediaire" at the IC Faculty council. From September 2010 I represent now the teaching staff for a new term.
BIOGRAPHY
I come from Brittany, in the far west of France, where I have completed my PhD degree in Computer Science in 1986 from the University of Rennes, France, at the INRIA-IRISA research institute. I also received the Habilitation degree from the University of Grenoble, France, in march 1995.

I was hired in 1989 as First Assistant in the VRLAB, I became scientific collaborator, and senior researcher. I'm presently Senior Scientist (MER) and leader of the Immersive Interaction research Group (IIG).

I'm co-author of around 120 research papers among which 32 appeared in international peer-reviewed journals. In the past I have contributed to multiple SNF projects and EU projects. I'm PI of 2 SNF project and co-investigator in a third one. I supervize the EU project CyberEmotion together with D. Thalmann and S. Gobron.
