MISSION
I'm leading a group active in research of liquid metal infiltration processing and related phenomena, e.g. wetting of ceramic surfaces by metals, permeability of porous preforms. Beside fundamental aspects of processing the group is also involved in the development of new materials for thermal management, in particular diamond-filled metal matrix composites. In particular we want to understand the link between matrix composition and heat transfer at the interface between metal and diamond as well as the fundamental aspects of the heat transfer at the interface between a metal and a dielectric.
BIOGRAPHY
born in Wettingen (AG), my family moved, when I was 2, to Stein am Rhein (SH), one of the most beautiful towns of Switzerland, where I passed my childhood and adolescence. After having earned the Matura (Typus A) from Kantonsschule Schaffhausen, I enrolled for studies of Materials Science at ETH Zurich. I lived in Zurich for seven years, i.e during my studies and while I was a Ph.D. candidate. During that period I met my wife Nathalie with whom I got married in 1995. After my thesis we moved to Lausanne were I started an academic career at EPFL. I have currently three children born in 2002, 2004, and 2006.
