Franco Vigliotti
Mission
Rattaché à la vice-présidence des opérations, le domaine Développement et construction comprend le service Construction, les services de restauration et les opérations des campus associés (EPFL Neuchâtel, EPFL Valais-Wallis, EPFL Genève et EPFL Fribourg). Au niveau central, le domaine planifie toutes les nouvelles constructions de l'EPFL et ses rénovations d'ampleur (le campus de demain), ses espaces extérieurs. Il est aussi chargé de coordonner la restauration sur le campus, notamment en termes de stratégie, d'exploitation et de durabilité. Est également inclue dans les missions la coordination des opérations les campus associés, sous la responsabilité des directions opérationnelles qui gèrent les campus locaux au quotidien.
Précédemment, j'ai été doyen et directeur d'EPFL Middle East pendant 12 ans, où j'avais la responsabilité globale des activités académiques et opérationnelles.
J'ai obtenu mon master et mon doctorat en physique de la matière condensée et en physique des lasers à Lausanne en 2000. Parallèlement, j'étais consultant indépendant pour l'industrie suisse du ciment, dans le domaine du contrôle qualité, de l'analyse des données et de la gestion. Je suis également alumnus du programme IMD Managing Technology Enterprise.
Entre 2001 et 2004, j'ai été chercheur associé en chimie-physique et boursier postdoctoral du Fonds National Suisse pour la recherche pendant trois ans au California Institute of Technology à Pasadena, sous la direction d'Ahmed Zewail. (Prix Nobel de Chimie 1999).
En 2004, j'ai rejoint la présidence de l'EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), où mes activités ont porté sur le développement stratégique de l'EPFL, plusieurs réorganisations et partenariats académiques à grande échelle, ainsi que de nouvelles initiatives aux niveaux régional, national et international.
En 2009, j'ai été nommé doyen et directeur d'EPFL Middle East, à Ras Al Khaimah, un centre de recherche et d'innovation de l'EPFL aux Émirats arabes unis. Mes activités se sont concentrées sur la gestion de l'énergie, la durabilité et les technologies de soutien. Le programme que j'ai dirigé a donné lieu à plus de 12 thèses de doctorat et 100 thèses de master, ainsi qu'à 50 stages de niveau post-gradés aux Émirats arabes unis. Certains de ces projets ont soutenu ou donné lieu à des investissements industriels et gouvernementaux stratégiques localement, ainsi qu'à la création de start-ups. L'impact global de ces projets a confirmé le potentiel de l'innovation en tant que moteur socio-économique, en parfaite adéquation avec l'agenda national des Émirats arabes unis, que ce soit en termes de valeur économique à travers les Émirats arabes unis (plus de 100 millions de dollars américains à ce jour) ou en termes environnementaux.
Depuis 2021, je dirige le Domaine Développement et Construction de l'EPFL, chargé de superviser le développement des infrastructure des campus de l'EPFL.
Entre 2001 et 2004, j'ai été chercheur associé en chimie-physique et boursier postdoctoral du Fonds National Suisse pour la recherche pendant trois ans au California Institute of Technology à Pasadena, sous la direction d'Ahmed Zewail. (Prix Nobel de Chimie 1999).
