Students will explore key global problems such as climate change and biodiversity and their links to planetary health, including an in-depth examination of cancer. The course will give an overview of bioengineering strategies to reduce environmental impacts, the effect of environmental factors as risk factor in cancer development, and the role of metabolic engineering in planetary health. Cancer biology I

The course covers in detail molecular mechanisms of cancer development with emphasis on cell cycle control, genome stability, oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, signaling pathways involved in cancer, genomic cancer analysis and rational cancer therapies.

Practical - Oricchio Lab

Training in hemato-oncology. Analysis and genetic manipulation of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Morphological recognition of main hematopoietic lineages.
