Nedeljko Vasic Networked Systems Laboratory Postdoctoral Researcher nationality: Serbian office(s): INN315 phone(s): [+41 21 69] 34708 MISSION Network devices expand large amounts of energy even when they are idle or rather low utilized, and this problem is exacerbated by the need to overprovision the network to reduce jitter and packet loss. CMOS technology is reaching a plateau in power-efficiency, and the cooling costs of new equipment are also likely to increase. Finally, it is likely that energy costs will continue to rise, which will make the problem even worse. My research focuses on making energy a first-class managed resource in networks, along with performance and reliability; I strive to design networks that match energy-proportionality, i.e., they should handle the required load by using the minimum amount of energy. I believe that such design could be applied on both, the internet and data center networks. BIOGRAPHY I received my Ph.D. in the School of Computer Sciences and Communications, from EPFL, Switzerland. I obtained a MSc degree in school of Computer Science and Automatics from University of Novi Sad (FTN), Serbia, in 2006 where I was awarded a prestige award "Svetosavska nagrada" (St. Sava's award) for the best graduated student of the University of Novi Sad by Ministry of Education and Sport, Republic of Serbia. NEWS June 9, 2011 - Presented "Overcoming the Optimality-Scalability Trade-off in Energy-Proportional Computer Networks" at Telefonica Research, Barcelona. Feb 24, 2011 - Defended my Ph.D! Oct 6, 2010 - Was blessed with a baby girl, Tara. June 2010 - Presented "Thermal-Aware Workload Scheduling for Energy Efficient Data Centers" paper at ICAC '10. May 2010 - Got married.
