Biography
Gabriele Cecchetti is a doctoral assistant at the Digital and Cognitive Musicology Lab of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. After graduating in physics (Università La Sapienza) and as a cellist (Conservatorio Santa Cecilia), he was awarded an MPhil in Music Studies at the Centre for Music and Science of the University of Cambridge, where he received a Master Award and a Brahm-Schild Internship Grant by the Homerton College. He was Visiting Fellow at The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour, and Development (Western Sydney University), and received scholarships by the Cambridge Trust, Regione Lazio and the Conservatory "Santa Cecilia". He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Music Theory and Analysis (GATM) and of the editorial board of Analitica. Rivista Online di Studi Musicali. As a musician with a particular devotion to chamber music, he has worked with several orchestras and with the educational programs of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.His research interests lie on a spectrum spanning from music analysis and performance to the mathematical and theoretical modelling of the cognitive underpinnings of the experience of music. Within the ERC-funded project ‘Principles of Musical Structure Building’ he works to bridge theoretical and computational approaches to musical structure with empirical cognitive frameworks.
