Kyriakos C. Stylianou
Kyriakos C. Stylianou obtained his PhD degree in materials chemistry from the University of Liverpool, UK (December 2011) under the supervision of Prof. Matthew J. Rosseinsky and co-supervision of Prof. Darren Bradshaw. His PhD thesis was based on the rational design, synthesis and characterisation of open porous MOFs for advanced applications. Upon completion of his PhD, the award of the prestigious Marie Curie fellowship allowed him to move at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and collaborate with Prof. Daniel Maspoch. He chose to apply his synthetic background in surface chemistry and growth of porous materials on surfaces using several methods such as nanolithography and inkjet printing, and study how the miniaturisation of MOFs at the nanoscale regime can affect their properties.
He currently holds a Research Scientist position at the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering in Sion, EPFL Valais Wallis, which is a newly established satellite campus of EPFL. He leads the synthetic activity within the LSMO led by Prof. Berend Smit and he is in charge of RoSy, a state-of-the-art robotic platform. His research activity focuses on the usage of robotic techniques to accelerate the discovery of nanoporous materials for the selective capture and utilisation of CO2.
