Biography and current work

Biography

M.A.Dupertuis was born in 1956 in the Canton de Vaud, Switzerland, and lived in France until his « baccalauréat ». He obtained his PhD in Lausanne, Switzerland, at the « Centre de Recherches en Physique des Plasmas » in 1985. After a post doctoral stay at the « Research Center for Theoretical Physics » at the University of Helsinki, Finland, he returned to Switzerland in 1987 at the « Institute for Micro- and Optoelectronics ». In 2001 he has spent a sabbatical leave at the « Institut für Physik der Humboldt-Universität » in Berlin, Germany, in 2006 he was Senior invited researcher at the "Institut des Nanosciences de Paris", and in 2008 he was invited to spend one month at the Center for Quantum Technologies (NUS) in Singapore.

His theoretical work covered a wide variety of topics from plasma physics to condensed matter physics via quantum optics and optoelectronic device physics. His present research interests are both fundamental and applied, ranging from fundamental mathematics or physics to the understanding specific laboratory experiments or to patenting practical ideas.

During the last ten years he has been more specifically active in the field of semiconductor nanostructures, in particular symmetry effects on the optical spectra excitons, trions and biexcitons in quantum wires and quantum dots. He has also been interested by the study of the interaction of ultrafast light pulses in semiconductors, including single and two-photon transitions, and the probing of ultrafast optoelectronic devices. Another keen interest has been novel ways to study many-body effects in semiconductors, like the effects linked with composite bosons. More recently he has started to investigate schemes for entangled photon generation in diverse material systems and configurations.
