Biography

Panagiotis Tsilifis was born in Aigio, Greece, in 1985. He received his Diploma and M.Sc. degrees in applied mathematical sciences from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 2009 and 2011 respectively. In between, he also spent one year as an exchange student at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), in Stockholm, Sweden. He then received an M.A. and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics in 2014 and 2016 respectively from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA, USA. The research for his doctoral dissertation "Design, adaptation and variational methods in Uncertainty Quantification" was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Roger G. Ghanem. His research focuses on Uncertainty Quantification methods including Bayesian approaches to optimal design and inference as well as construction of Polynomial Chaos surrogates with applications in geosciences, reservoir modeling and food microbiology. Prior to joining Prof. Fabio Nobile's CSQI group at EPFL, he also spent two years as a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at USC and worked as an external consultant for the Economics Unit of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) at the World Bank, DC, USA.

Dr. Tsilifis received the Graduate Scholarship by the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY), Greece in 2010 and the Gerondelis Graduate Fellowship by Gerondelis Foundation, MA, USA in 2013. He is also a SIAM member since 2014, has received SIAM travel awards twice, in 2015 and 2016 and a travel award from the postdoctoral association of USC.
