Materials Science and Engineering

Courses

Materials structure

This course links the various structural scales of matter with the mechanical, thermal, electrical and optical properties of materials. Hands-on works and a team project provide a first experience as materials engineer.

Thermodynamics for materials science

This course establishes the basic concepts of thermodynamics and defines the main state functions. The concepts are then applied to the study of phase diagrams of various systems.

Surfaces and interfaces

This lecture introduces the basic concepts used to describe the atomic or molecular structure of surfaces and interfaces and the underlying thermodynamic concepts. The influence of interfaces on the properties of materials is also discussed.

Nanoparticles: from fundamentals to applications

This Summer School examines important scientific aspects regarding the development, characterization and application of nanoparticles for medical applications and provide an in-depth review of corresponding fundamentals.
