Biography
I come from a mathematical background having completed BSc Mathematics and Statistics in Newcastle University (NCL) with an average mark of 84%. I have always been interested in applying theoretical concepts in practice. This has encouraged me to pursue the MSc Artificial Intelligence program (QMUL), which I have completed with an average mark of 88% and achieved the highest mark in my year for the Advanced Robotics Systems module (94.1%).During my studies I have worked on a number of topics which led me to my current research interests. I have explored Bayesian Inference on Perception of Visual Input, e.g., how one can predict the object of interest in an image based on the observer's background and image’s features, like contrast or entropy. Participants’ prior was elicited as a Dirichlet distribution, likelihood was designed as a categorical distribution, which, by conjugacy, resulted in a Dirichlet posterior distribution. I could conclude that an element of surprise and the size of the object in an image contribute towards the prediction of gaze attraction, so both initial prior and likelihood measures need to be adjusted.
Since the start of the PhD I have also been employed as a Research Assistant, which allowed me to contribute to several activities. I have been a demonstrator for the Introduction to Computer Vision module, where my responsibilities included running lab sessions for a class of 90 students. I have also been a chair of weekly research group meetings.
