Cyber Physical Systems
MissionThe interdisciplinary research carried out in my Group aims at handling coordination and interaction challenges using systems engineering methodologies. The underlying approach is to exploit in an integrated manner the dynamical couplings that exist between users, smart devices and information systems to ease adoption and improve usability in distributed real-time applications. Innovative domains of deployment are the Internet of things, autonomous transportation systems and social media for learning and knowledge management.
BiographyDenis Gillet received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Systems also from the EPFL in 1995. During 1992 he was appointed as Research Fellow at the Information Systems Laboratory of Stanford University in the United States. He is currently Maître d'enseignement et de recherche at the EPFL School of Engineering, where he leads the React multi-disciplinary research group. His current research interests include Technologies Enhanced Learning (TEL), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Devices Interaction (HDI) and Optimal Coordination of Complex and Distributed Systems. During the academic year 2005-2006 he was on sabbatical leave as Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of Engineering, Chinese University of Hong Kong. Between 2011 and 2013, he was Guest Professor at the School of Software Engineering, Tongji University. Denis Gillet is affiliated at EPFL with the Transportation Center and the Center for Digital Education.

MissionCoordination and Interaction Systems. This interdisciplinary research aims at handling coordination and interaction challenges using systems engineering methodologies. The underlying approach is to exploit in an integrated manner the dynamical couplings that exist between users, devices and information systems to ease adoption and improve usability in distributed frameworks. Innovative domains of deployment are cyber physical systems, autonomous transportation systems, social media for digital education and knowledge management, as well as humanitarian technology.
