Expertise

Professor Cammy Brothers is the author of Michelangelo, Drawing and the Invention of Architecture (Yale University Press, 2008) and Giuliano da Sangallo and the Ruins of Rome (Princeton University Press, 2022). She is also co-author, with Michael Waters, of Variety, Archeology and Ornament: Renaissance Architectural Prints from Column to Cornice (UVA Art Museum, 2011), and contributes regularly as an art critic to the Wall Street Journal. She is currently working on "Memory, Preservation, and Appropriation: The Contested Architectural Legacy of Islamic Spain," and co-edits the series "All’Antica: Early Modern Perspectives on the Antique" (Harvey Miller Press). She received her A.B. from Harvard and Radcliffe colleges (summa cum laude), her M.A. from the Courtauld Institue of Art in London and her Ph.D. from Harvard University.

At EPFL, Professor Brothers’s teaching will focus on redesigning the first- and second-year history courses, developing a comparative and global approach to the history of architecture and cities. Structured around themes such as Monuments, Materials, Meanings and Architecture, Imitation and Invention, the courses will combine thematic lectures with curated conversations featuring invited guests. Her lab, CHAART (Critical Histories of Architecture and Art) will bring together a range of specialists on the Early Modern Mediterranean world.
