Diego Barrettino received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1997, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), Switzerland, in 2004. From 1997 to 2000, he worked in Allegro MicroSystems, Inc., where he was an Analog IC Designer of Hall-effect magnetic sensors. From 2000 to 2004, he was a Research Assistant at ETHZ. In 2004, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, and in 2005, he was an Assistant Professor in the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI, USA. In 2006, he returned to Europe, where he joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, as a Senior Research Scientist. From 2007 to 2009, he was first a Senior Lecturer in the University of Glasgow, U.K., and then a Senior Lecturer in the University College Cork, Republic of Ireland. From 2009 to 2017, he was a Full Professor and the Head of the Laboratory of Microelectronics, Bioelectronics and Sensor Systems (LMBS) in the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), Bioggio, Switzerland. From 2017 to 2025, he was a Research Lecturer in the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), Switzerland. He is now at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland where he continues his research on smart sensor systems for biomedical applications.
