Courses

Theory of urbanism

Theory of Urbanism deals with models, projects, tools, planning and design techniques from the XVIIIth Century to the present day, by linking theoretical discourse and design, text and image. Urban models and projects are the testing ground of ideas and concepts in the form of spatial themes.

UE J : Territory and landscape

EU J introduces students to territorial analysis at the large scale, in the light of a research hypothesis. A sequence of operations is proposed: fieldwork; identification of prospective principles.

Post-extraction territories in transition

The Seminar proposes a European and transatlantic dialogue around the questions of the social and ecological transition (post-carbon) of marginal spaces, and territories of exploitation as the ancient coal territories on the two sides of the Atlantic.

SCIENCE AND SOCIETY. 7th Rencontres de l'EDAR

The 2023 edition of Les Rencontres de l'EDAR invites doctoral students to reflect on the social and "operational" value of research, referring to their own experience as young scholars - whether this experience is related to their PhD dissertation or to other scientific activities.

Theory or Practice ? Research by design

The seminar focuses on the particular, still little understood, type of research, done "through" design. It debates on its relevance within doctoral studies thanks to the curriculum and experience of three guest scholars.

Tentacular Writing. A peer-to-peer Writing Retreat

This summer school renegotiates the ways we perform writing, as a format and as a practice. In the set-up of a collective retreat in the Swiss Alps, in a non-hierarchical learning format, a group of peers is invited to shape an academic community, work alongside and discuss their work-in-progress.
