Biography
Emily Bezerra obtained her BSc. degree in Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Brazil, in 2019, followed by a second BSc. degree in Materials Engineering from the same institution in 2020. In 2022, she received a master´s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. As part of her master´s research, she developed a Complex-Structured 3D printed Electronic Skin (e-skin) for Physiological Signs and Robotic Limbs, contributing to entire soft functional device development of a new class of 3D printed e-skin for tactile sensing and extended reality.Following the completion of her master's studies at KAUST, she joined the Advanced Sensor and Electronics Technologies (ASET) group at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), where she currently works as a Junior Scientist. Her primary focus lies in the development of sustainable sensors using various printing strategies, particularly Aerosol Jet Printing.
As part of her PhD project at EPFL, she aims to develop a diabetes monitoring device with enhanced sustainability. Her project aligns with sustainable design principles, emphasizing material and energy efficiency, as well as waste reduction. The PhD thesis is under the supervision of Prof. Sandro Carrara (EPFL) and co-supervised by Dr. Jürgen Kosel (Head of SAL research division "Sensor Systems").
