Iegor Vlasenko
Biography
Iegor (Yegor) Vlasenko (he/him) is a researcher in urban studies and planning with a Master of Science degree in Urban Studies from Malmö University (2017). Since April 2023, he is a Doctoral Assistant and PhD student in Architecture and City Sciences at the Laboratory of Urbanism, EPFL, working on the dissertation entitled “Decentralisation as an Agent of Resilience? Comprehending Urbanisation and Wartime Planning in Ukraine”. He is also serving as a Communications Assistant of the Doctoral Program in Architecture and Sciences of the City (EDAR).
Previously, he was a component coordinator of an international technical assistance project that focuses on application of integrated urban development approach in Ukraine. He also served as a program director at CANactions School for Urban Studies and program coordinator at Kyiv School of Economics. He was a Visiting Scholar at the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning in 2019–2020.
His research has been focused on studying territorial governance and spatial planning systems in Europe, urban commons, and urban design politics. His regional expertise includes CEE and his home country of Ukraine, Nordic countries and Baltic Sea region, and the United States.
