Biography

Ivan is an applied economist with a keen interest in environmental, socio-economic and sustainability issues. His main research areas are economic policies, international economics, environmental and resource economics, agricultural and forestry economics, and applied econometrics.
 
He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Landscape Development at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where he contributes to research on the environmental, economic and social aspects of renewable energy development. 
 
He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona in July 2021. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Lausanne and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Geneva.

Before joining EPFL, he worked as a researcher at the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA). In the spring of 2024, he undertook two research visits at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG) and the Conservation Research Institute (CRI) at the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, and at the University College London (UCL) Energy Institute of the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources at UCL.

Between 2020 and 2022, he worked as a data analyst and consultant at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Prior to this, he also completed internships at the World Trade Organisation and the London Stock Exchange Group, and worked as a research assistant at the University of Oxford. 

Over the course of his career, he has conducted academic research and policy work, both independently and in collaboration with research teams, on issues ranging from economic policies and international trade to natural capital and climate change mitigation, and has worked on operational and data collection exercises in the humanitarian sector. He is also the author of several articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals and is involved in EU-funded projects on environmental issues such as agroforestry and energy transition.

His ambition is to conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of science, policy and society, contributing to the co-creation of new solutions to pressing climate, environmental and socio-economic challenges.
