Ivan Hajdukovic

Biography

Ivan Hajdukovic is an applied economist with a keen interest in environmental, socio-economic and sustainability issues. His main research interests are economic policies, international economics, environmental and resource economics, agricultural and forestry economics, and applied econometrics. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona in 2021 and holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Lausanne, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Geneva.

Ivan is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Landscape Development of the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where he contributes to research on landscape development and renewable energy, with a focus on their environmental and socio-economic dimensions. He is also a research fellow at the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA).

Before joining EPFL, Ivan worked as a researcher at EMEA, where he supported the implementation of various projects and conducted economic policy research on sustainability and the environment. Notably, he led the research for EMEA's participation in ReForest, a Horizon Europe project. In the spring of 2024, he undertook two research visits at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG) and the Conservation Research Institute (CRI) in the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, and at the University College London (UCL) Energy Institute of the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resource. From May 2020 to July 2022, he worked as a data analyst at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Prior to that, he interned in the Trade and Environment Division of the World Trade Organisation and worked as a research assistant at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the University of Oxford.

Throughout my career, Ivan has conducted both independent and collaborative academic research and policy work on a wide range of issues, including economic policies, international trade, energy and material resources, and climate change mitigation. He has also contributed to operational and data collection exercises in the humanitarian sector. His ambition is to conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of science, policy and society, and to contribute to the co-creation of new solutions to pressing climate, environmental and socio-economic challenges.
