Biography
Johanna Zikulnig was born in 1990 in Graz and lives in Carinthia, which is located in the South of Austria. In 2017, she obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Graz University of Technology. After working as a Junior Researcher in the Smart Systems Group at Carinthian Tech Research, she joined the Sensor Applications Group at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), where she is currently employed as a Scientist. Her scientific interests are on the development of sustainable sensors focusing on printing and hybrid technologies.
As part of her PhD project at EPFL, a sustainable self sufficient sensor platform for gas sensing applications will be developed. The goal is to use sustainable materials and additive manufacturing without requiring a battery or other potentially environmentally harmful components for energy storage and supply. This self-sufficient gas sensing platform can be used for e.g. low-cost and wireless breath analysis. The PhD project is co-supervised by Prof. Sandro Carrara (EPFL) and Dr. Jürgen Kosel (Head of SAL research unit “Sensor Applications”).
