School Assembly candidacy
I am currently a candidate to be a representative for all students at the school assembly!
If I'm elected, my goal will be quite straightforward: defend student interests in discussions with the school Board.
Since this is quite broad, here are three subjects where I believe particular attention is needed.
Mental health of students:
Past surveys have shown that the mental health situation within the student body is dire. Heavy workload combined with expectations of excellency and the threat of definitive failure are a recipe for anxiety disorders, burnout, or worse. I believe that there must be a fundamental shift in what is expected from students in order to alleviate these issues, and small incremental changes will help, but ultimately not be enough.
Cuts in federal funding:
With the raise of tuition fees for foreign students, and current talk of further raise of tuition for swiss students, we have all seen how the federal finances affect the lives of students. As an elected representative of all students of EPFL, I will do my best to defend a vision where our university is accessible to everyone, no matter their socio-economic background.
Political expression on campus:
Recent years have shown that the school has been more interested in protecting its reputation than to allow students to express their opposition to decisions of the Board concerning geopolitical events. In my opinion, political expression on campus should be protected and not met with restrictions, as long as discussions are non violent.
In order to work on these subjects, I will use the experience gathered with my work as Chair for Representation at AGEPoly and as CMS class representative. With these, I have learned a lot about how our school works, its rules, and the different entities that have an impact on student life.
