Luisa is an Architectural Engineer and a PhD in Recovery of Existing Buildings and Innovative Processes in Architecture from the University of Palermo (Italy). Her research focuses on sustainable design strategies and comfort in buildings.
Her PhD thesis "Sustainable Social Housing in Temperate Areas. Italy and Brazil: the use of vegetation as a retrofit strategy" was awarded with the Diploma d'Onore 2014 conferred by AISRe (Italian section of the European Regional Science Association).
Since 2009 she has also worked on a research about innovative façade systems for which she was awarded as Innovator Under 35 Italy 2014 by MIT Technology Review Italy.
She's co-founder of SBskin. Smart Building Skin, a technological startup based in Palermo which develops innovative and energy-efficient building façade components.
She's co-author of two patents and one PCT. Some of her works have been published in books, conference proceedings and journals.
Currently, she's carrying out a research on building users' satisfaction in energy efficient buildings through Post-Occupancy Evaluations in Switzerland.
Luisa joined LIPID in October 2014. Since then, her main areas of investigation have been:
- the influence of contemporary urbanization on bioclimatic features of historic and traditional architecture
- the relation between façade design and user’s comfort in energy efficient buildings through post occupancy evaluations
