Biography
Michela Bonomo is an Architect (ARB/RIBA) and Ph.D. candidate in History and Theory of Architecture at EPFL under the supervision of Prof. Christophe Van Gerrewey and Prof. Pier Vittorio Aureli.Her doctoral research is a critique of the building typology and ideology of the villa in Italy of the Postwar period investigating concepts of privilege, domesticity, ecology, and subject production. While teaching and assisting Bachelor and Master Architecture students at EPFL, she organises Doc.Days EDAR an annual symposium for PhD students launched in April 2023.
Michela has been an invited external critic at Brighton University and the Architectural Association.
Prior to starting her Ph.D. Michela has been a practicing Architect since 2016. She gained professional experience at Foster Partners and Herzog & De Meuron (London Office) working mainly on high-end residential projects from concept to construction stages and large cultural projects, before taking on projects as a freelance architect in London and Milan.
Michela received her RIBA Part 1 in Architecture at London Metropolitan Architecture, Riba Part 2 Diploma at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, and Riba Part 3 at the University of Westminster. Michela was nominated for the Dennis Sharpe Writing Prize (2016) and the Foster and Partners AA Technical Studies Prize (2016). Her student work has been exhibited at the Lisbon Triennale, AA Project Review, and appeared on Something Curated.
