Rémi Petitpierre's PhD focuses on the large-scale computational study of historical cartography, from the perspective of the propagation of ideas and cultural technologies. His research aims at modeling cultural evolution with a memetic approach, based on fundamental theories of semiotics and linguistics. On the other hand, as an assistant, he develops automatic document recognition technologies in the framework of the Lausanne Time Machine EPFL-Unil project. In particular, he propose innovative approaches for the automatic vectorization of historical cadastres and for the geographical realignment of historical maps.
