Biography
Shyam has background experience in research at EPFL, The University of Tokyo, and Keio University Japan and working in multi-disciplinary firms including Maki and Associates, Tokyo, and FORUM8 Co,.Ltd, Japan since 2017. Trained as a System Engineer with academic expertise in urban planning, mobility, smart city, and digital urban – visualization, and simulations.In 2022, he commenced his Ph.D as EPFLglobalLeader fellow (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Co-fund) chosen as projects that target sustainable development goals in the global south addressing sustainable cities, inequalities, and social exclusion.
Currently a doctoral candidate at the Laboratory of Urbanism and Urban Sociology Laboratory working under the direction of Prof. Paola Viganò and the Co-direction of Prof. Vincent Kaufmann.
His PhD research gazes into social injustice, spatial injustice, informal economy, informality, digital methods, spaces of encounters, and spatial proximity between the affluent and lower economic strata in Hyderabad city, India. The research mainly pivots at the nexus of social, spatial, and digital capitals.
In 2017, Shyam completed his master’s in environmental design and governance at Keio University, Tokyo, following his bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture University, Hyderabad, India, in 2014.
