Biography
Tiphaine Robert is a historian and postdoctoral fellow (FNS Return CH Postdoc.Mobility). Previously, she was visiting scholar at the Rachel Carson Center (LMU, Munich) and Ecole urbaine de Lyon (2022-2023). Tiphaine currently conducts research on the development of automobile traffic during the Great Acceleration (1950-2000). She also works as a collaborator at UniDistance Switzerland.Previously, she conducted research on Cold War refugees (University of Fribourg/EHESS, Paris/Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest) and published her thesis in 2021 (Des migrants et des revenants: Une histoire des réfugiées et réfugiés hongrois en Suisse (1956-1963). Neuchâtel: Editions Alphil).

This course provides a general introduction to Swiss history, its culture, its economy and its political system since 1848 until today.
Understanding modern Switzerland II
Based on the knowledge acquired during the fall semester course (Understanding modern Switzerland I), students are asked to work by group of 3-4 students and prepare a paper on a topic previously discussed with the teachers.
