Après des études à l'EPFL, Yves Revaz a soutenu une thèse de doctorat intitulée: "Dynamique des régions externes des galaxies spirales et contraintes sur la matière noire" à l'Observatoire de Genève, sous la direction du Prof. Daniel Pfenniger. Il a ensuite travaillé à l'Observatoire de Paris, au LERMA (Laboratoire d'Etudes du Rayonnement et de la Matière en Astrophysique et Atmosphères) avec la Prof. Françoise Combes ets'est intéressé aux écoulements froids dans les amas de galaxies. Il a rejoint le LASTRO en 2007, où, il a développé un nouveau code TreePM/SPH chemo-dynamique appelé GEAR, ainsi que pNbody, une librairie python parallélisée dédiée à l'analyse de larges systèmes N-corps. Armé de ces outils, il étudie l'évolution chimique des galaxies. Il se focalise actuellement sur l'évolution des galaxies naines et leur lien avec la cosmologie.
Paralellement à sa rechèrche, Yves Revaz a également dirigé le projet of VIRUP, un nouvel environnement de réalité virtuelle (VR) utilisé pour voyager à travers le cosmos, quicombine des données observées et simulées. En 2020 et 2021, il a réalisé deux courts métrages (en 2D, 3D, 180-3D and 360-3D) entièrement baséssur VIRUP. Un film de 4 minutes, présentant la carte 3D la plus complète de notre Univers, comme observé par le recensement eBOSS,ainsi qu'un documentaire de 21 minutes intitulé "Archéologie de la lumière", qui propose un voyage à travers les différentes échelles de notre Univers.

Le but de ce cours est d'acquérir les connaissances de base sur des phénomènes de dynamique spécifiques à l'astrophysique, déterminant l'origine, l'équilibre et l'évolution des objets cosmiques tels que les amas d'étoiles, les galaxies et les amas de galaxies.

Le but du cours de physique générale est de donner à l'étudiant les notions de base nécessaires à la compréhension des phénomènes physiques. L'objectif est atteint lorsque l'étudiant est capable de prévoir quantitativement les conséquences de ces phénomènes avec des outils théoriques appropriés.
